Step by step

Tap Optimize now
Settings, Device care. The top card rates the phone and offers Optimize now, which closes background apps and frees memory. Ours said Good.

Free up storage
Storage shows how full the phone is. A nearly full phone slows down; tap Storage to find large files and unused apps. Ours was 24% used.

Check Memory
Memory shows how much RAM is in use. Tap it to close apps you are not using.

Turn on Auto restart
Device care, Auto optimization. Auto restart can restart the phone when it detects performance problems, or on a schedule.

Install software updates
Software update is on the same page. Updates fix bugs that slow the phone down. Ours had last checked on October 4, 2026.
Restart the phone
A restart clears apps that hang in the background.
About this guide
A Galaxy that feels slow usually has too little free storage, too many apps running, or has not restarted for a long time. Device care shows all three on one page.
The screenshots are from a Samsung Galaxy A57 5G with One UI 8.5 and Android 16. Other Galaxy phones on One UI 8 use the same menus; on older One UI versions a few names and positions differ. We only looked at these screens on our phone and changed nothing.
