In short

Go to Settings, Wi-Fi and tap the network you are connected to, where it says Tap to share password. A Share sheet opens with a QR code, the network name and the password. Let the other phone scan the code, or read out the password.

5 of 5 steps show a real screenshot from our Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G. Each step was checked against the maker's own instructions, linked at the end.

Steps

0 of 5 steps
  1. 1

    Tap the connected network

Open Settings and tap Wi-Fi. The network you are connected to is the blue row at the top, with Tap to share password under its name. Tap the row.

Let them scan the QR code

A Share sheet opens with a big QR code. The other person scans it with their phone to join the network. On ours the sheet opened straight away.

    Or read out the password

Below the QR code the sheet shows the network name and the password as plain text, so you can also type it on the other device.

    Quick Share

The Quick Share button at the bottom is another way to send it. We did not try it.

    Close the sheet

Tap the X next to Share when you are done.

If you do not see this option

  • Asked for a PIN or fingerprint? Ours showed the password with no PIN check, but our phone had no screen lock set. We can't say whether a phone with a screen lock asks for it first.
  • Want to join a network from a QR code? The icon at the top right of the Wi-Fi page is a QR scanner. Tap it and point it at the other phone's code.

  • Steps from Google look different? Google's Android help shares through Network & internet, Internet and a Share button. On our Xiaomi it is the Tap to share password row on the Wi-Fi page. Source: Connect to Wi-Fi networks on your Android device

If this does not work

  • No Tap to share password line? It only shows under the network you are connected to. Connect first. If Wi-Fi keeps dropping, see Xiaomi Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting.
  • The other phone can't scan the code? Read the password under the QR code and type it in by hand on the other phone.
  • They joined but have no internet? If your own phone is online on the same network, the share worked and the problem is on the other device or the router's side. Ask them to turn their Wi-Fi off and on, and check whether the router limits how many devices can join.

Good to know

Share your mobile data instead: how to set up a hotspot on a Xiaomi phone.

Sharing changes nothing on your own phone: you stay connected and no setting moves. The other device saves the network, so it rejoins automatically whenever it is in range. That is convenient for family, less so for one-off visitors. If you change the router password, every device, yours included, has to join again with the new one. To give someone internet without your home Wi-Fi at all, share your phone's mobile data, as in the hotspot guide below.
