In short

Open Clock, Alarms and tap SET UP next to Sleep | Wake Up. A note says Sleep is now in Health: tap Set Up in Health, Continue, check the goal and times, then Next and Done. Ours suggested 8 hours, every day, 22:30 to 07:00 with no alarm. Turn the Schedule switch off to pause it.

7 of 7 steps show a real screenshot from our iPhone 17e. Each step was checked against the maker's own instructions, linked at the end.

If you do not see this option

If this does not work

  • No Set Up button in Health? There was none on ours under Browse, Sleep. Start from Clock, Alarms, Sleep | Wake Up instead.
  • Phone went quiet at 22:15? Wind Down was 15 min on ours, and the Sleep Focus starts then.
  • Changed the time and it came back? Apple says changes made with Next Wake Up Only apply only to the following day, while changes to your full schedule apply to all future days. For a lasting change, edit the schedule in Full Schedule & Options.
  • No sleep data in Health? Apple says that to receive sleep data you must turn on Track Sleep with Apple Watch, and wear the watch to sleep for at least an hour. A schedule on the iPhone alone sets times and the Focus, but does not fill in your sleep history.

Good to know

If an alarm does not ring, see iPhone alarm not going off: 8 things to check.

Once the schedule is on, the iPhone dims and reminds you to wind down, and Apple says Sleep can simplify your Lock Screen and turn on Sleep Focus at your scheduled bedtime. Pausing the schedule with the Schedule switch keeps your times for later; you do not have to set everything up again. If you wear an Apple Watch to bed, Apple suggests charging it to at least 30 per cent first, because a flat watch does not track sleep.
