How to set a charging limit on an iPhone
2 min read · 4 steps · Updated 2 October 2026
Open Settings, tap Battery, then Charging, and drag the Charge Limit slider to a value between 80% and 100%. The phone then stops charging at that level. This needs an iPhone 15 or later.
Lithium batteries age more slowly when they are not kept at 100% for long periods. A charge limit trades a little daily runtime for a battery that keeps its capacity longer.

Step by step
Open Settings and tap Battery
Battery has a green icon in the main list.
Tap Charging
It is below Battery Health.
Set the Charge Limit
Drag the slider, which moves in steps of 5% between 80% and 100%. 80% is kindest to the battery. 90% is a good middle if you need more runtime.
Leave Optimised Battery Charging on
If you keep the limit at 100%, this setting delays the last part of an overnight charge until shortly before you usually unplug.
Good to know
The iPhone will occasionally charge to 100% anyway, to keep its battery level reading accurate.
On iPhone 14 and earlier there is no adjustable limit. Use Optimised Battery Charging under Battery Health & Charging.
Before a long day away from power, move the slider to 100% the evening before.

In short: Settings, Battery, Charging, Charge Limit.
