ONEPLUS
How to reset or delete your advertising ID on a OnePlus (OxygenOS 16)
In short
Go to Settings, Security and privacy, Privacy controls, Ads. Tap Reset advertising ID for a new one, or Delete advertising ID so apps can no longer use it for personalised ads.
5 of 5 steps show a real screenshot from our Nord 5. Each step was checked against the maker's own instructions, linked at the end.
Steps
- 1
Open Privacy controls
Open Settings, Security and privacy, Privacy controls.

- 2
Tap Ads
It says Manage device data used to show you ads.

- 3
See both options
The Ads page has Reset advertising ID, Delete advertising ID and Enable debug logging for ads (off on ours). Our ID, at the bottom, is blurred.

- 4
Reset it
Tap Reset advertising ID. A box says it replaces the ID with a new random number; tap Confirm. We tapped Cancel.

- 5
Or delete it
Tap Delete advertising ID. A page explains that apps can still show ads, and that you can always get a new advertising ID later. The button is at the bottom; we did not tap it.

If you do not see this option
- Older Android? Ads was under Settings, Google, Ads on many phones. Source: Advertising ID
- Debug logging? Enable debug logging for ads, on the same page, was off on ours. It is for app makers.
If this does not work
- Ads still personal? The delete page notes that apps may have their own settings that affect the ads you see.
- Deleted by mistake? The delete page says you can always get a new advertising ID later.
- Ads still match your interests after deleting? The advertising ID is only one source. Google's Android ad privacy page says apps may still show ads related to what you use, and Android has separate controls for ad topics, app-suggested ads and ad measurement.
- Want the ID back after deleting it? Return to the Ads page. The delete page itself says you can always get a new advertising ID later; the new one is not linked to the old one.
Good to know
Use the privacy dashboard on a OnePlus.
When you delete the advertising ID, Google's developer help says apps that ask for it receive a string of zeros instead of the ID. In practice, ads become less personalised over time, and nothing else on the phone changes: apps, accounts and settings stay as they were, and there is no effect on battery. Google also notes that when an advertising ID is not present, an app may fall back to its own identifier, provided it follows Google Play's rules and its privacy policy.
For a fuller privacy clean-up, Google's Android ad privacy page describes three more controls. Ad topics lets Android share up to three topics at a time with an app and deletes topics after four weeks. App-suggested ads can be blocked app by app. Ad measurement lets apps share limited data about how their ads perform, and can be turned off. To see which apps used sensitive permissions recently, use the privacy dashboard on a OnePlus.
