How to reset or delete the advertising ID on a Samsung Galaxy

By · 2 min read · 4 steps · Updated 5 October 2026

Short answer

Open Settings, Security and privacy, More privacy settings and tap Ads. Reset advertising ID gives apps a new ID from now on; Delete advertising ID removes it, so apps that ask get only zeros.

Step by step

  1. Android screenshot: Open More privacy settings

    Open More privacy settings

Settings, Security and privacy, then scroll to More privacy settings.

  2. Android screenshot: Tap Ads

    Tap Ads

It is near the bottom, under Google.

  3. Android screenshot: Reset it

    Reset it

Reset advertising ID creates a new ID that apps can use from now on.

  4. Android screenshot: Or delete it

    Or delete it

Delete advertising ID removes it. Apps that ask for it get a string of zeros, so they cannot show you personalised ads based on it.

About this guide

Apps use the advertising ID to link what you do across apps for personalised ads. Resetting it breaks that link; deleting it stops apps from getting one at all.

The screenshots are from a Samsung Galaxy A57 5G with One UI 8.5 and Android 16. Other Galaxy phones on One UI 8 use the same menus; on older One UI versions a few names and positions differ. Our phone's ID is blurred. We only looked at these screens on our phone and changed nothing.

Good to know

Samsung's own options are higher on More privacy settings, such as Send diagnostic data.

Deleting the ID does not remove ads. You still see ads, only less personalised ones.

In short: Settings, Security and privacy, More privacy settings, Ads: Reset or Delete advertising ID.
