Short answer

Touch and hold the app and drag it to a new spot. To take it off the home screen, touch and hold it and tap Remove, not Uninstall. Ours vanished at once, with no question, and stayed on the Apps screen, still installed.

On ours the icon disappeared straight away. There was no question to confirm.

Find it on the Apps screen

Swipe up for the Apps screen. Netflix is still there, and still installed.

  6. Android screenshot: Drag it back

    Drag it back

Touch and hold it on the Apps screen. The home screen appears; drag the icon to a free spot and let go. Cancel at the top left stops it.

    Check the home screen

Netflix is back in its old spot next to Spotify.

If you do not see this option

  • No Remove in the menu? Ours showed Select, Remove and Uninstall. If Remove and Uninstall are greyed out, Lock Home screen layout is on: open Settings, Home screen and switch it off.
  • Removed the wrong app? Samsung says a removed app no longer appears on the home screen but can be found on the Apps screen. Drag it back from there. Source: How to add apps and widgets on your Galaxy phone's Home screen

If this does not work

About this guide

Remove only takes the icon off the home screen; Uninstall deletes the app. They sit side by side in the same menu, so it is worth knowing which is which.

The screenshots are from our Samsung Galaxy A57 with One UI 9 and Android 17 (build A576BXXU6BZIE), in Dark mode. We moved Netflix, removed it from the home screen and put it back in its old spot from the Apps screen.

Good to know

Group apps instead: make an app folder. Stop icons moving by accident: lock the home screen layout.

On a Pixel: move or remove an app from the home screen on a Google Pixel.

In short: Touch and hold, drag to move. Touch and hold, Remove (not Uninstall) to take it off the home screen; drag it back from the Apps screen.
