Step by step

1. 

   Open WhatsApp Settings

   On the Chats tab, tap the three dots at the top right, then Settings.

   Done

2. 

   Tap Privacy

   It is below Account: Blocked accounts, disappearing messages.

   Done

3. 

   Tap Profile picture

   Below Last seen and online. Ours said Everyone.

   Done

4. 

   Choose who can see it

   Everyone, My contacts, My contacts except... or Nobody. My contacts except... lets you pick people to hide it from.

   Done

5. 

   Check the Privacy page

   Ours said My contacts under Profile picture once we went back.

   Done

If you do not see this option

• On an iPhone? WhatsApp's iPhone help gives WhatsApp Settings, Privacy, then the setting, with Everyone, My contacts, My contacts except... or Nobody. Source: How to change your privacy settings

If this does not work

• Can't see someone's photo? They may have hidden it with My contacts or Nobody. WhatsApp lists My contacts and Nobody among the choices for the profile photo. Source: How to change your privacy settings
• Phone number still visible? WhatsApp says there is no way to hide your phone number when using WhatsApp. Source: How to change your privacy settings

About this guide

You can hide your photo from everyone or from chosen contacts only.

The screenshots are from our Google Pixel 10a with Android 17 and WhatsApp 2.26.41.77, in Dark mode, taken on 25 October 2026. We set it to My contacts for the last shot, then back to Everyone.
