Step by step

Tap Privacy & Security
It is in the Settings list, below Chat Settings.

Tap Last Seen & Online
It is under Phone Number. Ours said Everybody.

Choose Nobody or My Contacts
Under Who can see my last seen time?, tap the option you want. Never Share With lets you add exceptions.

Hide your read time too, then tap the tick
With Nobody picked, ours showed Always Share With and a new Hide Read Time switch (off). The page says it also hides their read time from you unless you have Premium, and does not affect group chats.
If you do not see this option
- No Hide Read Time switch? It only shows once you hide your last seen. With Everybody picked ours had none; after Nobody it appeared. Telegram says read times follow your Last Seen settings. Source: Saved Messages 2.0, One-Time Voice Messages and 8 More Features

- Help page says Privacy and Security? Telegram's FAQ calls it Privacy and Security settings. On our Telegram 13.1.1 the row reads Privacy & Security. Source: Can I hide my 'last seen' time?

If this does not work
- Still shown online for a moment? Telegram says people see you online for about 30 seconds after you send them a message, read theirs or show typing, whatever the setting. Source: Can I hide my 'last seen' time?
- Can't see other people's last seen now? Telegram says you won't see exact times for people you don't share yours with, only last seen recently, within a week or within a month. Premium lets you hide yours and still see theirs. Sources: Can I hide my 'last seen' time?, Saved Messages 2.0, One-Time Voice Messages and 8 More Features
About this guide
People only see you online if you share your last seen with them, Telegram says. Others see an approximate time such as last seen recently.
The screenshots are from Telegram 13.1.1 on our Google Pixel 10a with Android 17, in Dark mode, taken on 25 October 2026. We picked Nobody for the screenshots and went back to Everybody without saving.
