Short answer

On our Nord 5, pressing and holding the Power button opened the digital assistant (Google). To get the power menu instead, go to Settings, search Power button, tap Press and hold the Power button and choose Power menu.

Step by step

  1. Android screenshot: Open Power button

    Open Power button

Search Settings for Power button. System & update also suggests it at the bottom, under You might be looking for.

  2. Android screenshot: Check the settings

    Check the settings

Ours had Double click the Power button: None, and Press and hold the Power button: Digital assistant. Tap Press and hold the Power button.

  3. Android screenshot: Choose Power menu

    Choose Power menu

Choose Power menu instead of Digital assistant (Google). OnePlus's manual says that holding the Power button then opens the Power menu, with Power off and Restart.

If you do not see this option

  • Older OxygenOS? OnePlus's OxygenOS 14 manual has this under Settings, Additional settings, Power Button, Press and hold the power button, with Power Menu or Voice Assistant. Source: OxygenOS 14.0 User Manual
  • Double click? Double click the Power button was set to None on ours. Tap it to see its options.

About this guide

If holding the Power button starts the assistant instead of offering Power off, this setting is why.

The screenshots are from our OnePlus Nord 5 with OxygenOS 16.0.5.1201 and Android 16, in Dark mode. We only looked at these settings and changed nothing.

Good to know

Take a screenshot with the buttons: screenshots and screen recording.

In short: Settings, search Power button, Press and hold the Power button, Power menu.
