In short

In Calendar, tap the Calendars button at the top, then Add Calendar at the bottom and Add Holiday Calendar. Pick a country from the list. Our iPhone 17e had no Holidays calendar in its list, so the month view showed no holidays until one is added.

4 of 4 steps show a real screenshot from our iPhone 17e. Each step was checked against the maker's own instructions, linked at the end.

Steps

0 of 4 steps
  1. 1

    Tap the Calendars button

In the month view, tap the button left of the search button at the top. Ours showed October 2026 with no holidays in it.

iPhone screen: Tap the Calendars button
  2. 2

    Tap Add Calendar

Ours listed Home and Work under iCloud and Scheduled Reminders, Birthdays and Siri Suggestions under Other: no Holidays. Tap Add Calendar at the bottom.

    iPhone screen: Tap Add Calendar
  3. 3

    Tap Add Holiday Calendar

Add Holiday Calendar is at the top of the menu, above Add Subscription Calendar and Add Calendar.

    Pick a country

The list runs from Australia (English) onwards, and each country shows its language. Use the search box at the bottom to find yours and tap it.

If you do not see this option

  • After you tap a country? Apple says to tap the button to subscribe. We stopped at the list, so we cannot show it. Source: Use the Holidays calendar on iPhone
  • Remove a holiday from it? Apple says you cannot: it is a subscription calendar, and only its provider can change it. Source: Use the Holidays calendar on iPhone
  • Want to remove the holiday calendar? Apple's steps: in Calendar, tap the Calendars button, tap the info button next to the calendar, then tap Unsubscribe and confirm with Unsubscribe. The holidays disappear from your view at once. Source: Set up multiple calendars on iPhone

If this does not work

  • Holidays already listed but not showing? Apple says to tick the holiday calendar in the Calendars list.
  • Wrong country? Add the right one from Add Holiday Calendar and untick the other.
  • Holidays clash with your own events? Give the holiday calendar its own colour. In the Calendars list, tap the info button next to it and choose a colour, so public holidays stand out from your appointments.
  • Too many holiday notifications? Each calendar has its own Event Alerts switch. Tap the info button next to the holiday calendar in the Calendars list and turn Event Alerts off if you only want to see the days, not be alerted.

Good to know

More Calendar settings: how to show week numbers in the calendar on an iPhone.

The holiday calendar is read-only. You can show it, hide it, change its colour or switch its alerts, but the dates come from the provider and update on their own. Alerts for your own all-day events are set separately: see default alert times for calendar events.

Adding a holiday calendar does not change your iPhone's region, language or date format. Apple says the built-in Holidays calendar follows the region set on the iPhone, so the one you add sits alongside it rather than replacing it.
