"Connected, no internet" on a Samsung Galaxy? 6 fixes

By · 2 min read · 6 steps · Updated 5 October 2026

Short answer

Restart the router, then forget the network on the phone and join it again. Check Settings, Connections, More connection settings, Private DNS: a custom provider that is down blocks all internet, so choose Automatic. If it still fails, reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings.

Settings, Connections, Wi-Fi: touch and hold the network, tap Forget network, then tap it and enter the password again. Saved networks are also listed under three dots, Advanced settings, Manage networks.

    Open Private DNS

Settings, Connections, More connection settings, Private DNS. Ours was set to Automatic.

Choose Automatic, not a custom provider

The phone itself warns that with a provider hostname set, it cannot connect to the internet at all when that provider is unavailable. Automatic falls back to your network's own DNS servers.

    Reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings

Settings, General management, Reset, Reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings. Saved networks and paired devices are removed, nothing else. Steps: how to reset network settings on a Samsung Galaxy phone.

About this guide

The Wi-Fi symbol is there, but nothing loads. Either the router has lost its own connection, or the phone cannot use it. Check the router first: if other devices are offline too, the phone is not the problem.

The screenshots are from a Samsung Galaxy A57 5G with One UI 8.5 and Android 16. Other Galaxy phones on One UI 8 use the same menus; on older One UI versions a few names and positions differ. We only looked at these screens on our phone and changed nothing.
