Samsung Galaxy Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting? 6 things to check

By · 2 min read · 7 steps · Updated 5 October 2026

Short answer

Open Settings, Connections, Wi-Fi, the three dots and Intelligent Wi-Fi, and turn off Switch to mobile data and Switch to better Wi-Fi networks to see whether they cause the drops. If not, forget the network and join again, then reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings.

Step by step

  1. Android screenshot: Open Connections

    Open Connections

    Open Settings and tap Connections.

  2. Android screenshot: Tap Wi-Fi

    Tap Wi-Fi

Tap the word Wi-Fi, not the switch.

  3. Android screenshot: Tap the three dots, then Intelligent Wi-Fi

Tap the three dots, then Intelligent Wi-Fi

The three dots are at the top right of the Wi-Fi page.

  4. Android screenshot: Check Switch to mobile data

    Check Switch to mobile data

This moves the phone to mobile data when Wi-Fi is unstable and back when the signal is strong. It needs a SIM. Switch it off to test whether it causes the drops.

  5. Android screenshot: Check Switch to better Wi-Fi networks

Check Switch to better Wi-Fi networks

This hops to a faster or more stable network you have saved. To prevent interruptions it only happens while the screen is off, but it can still move you off your main network.

  6. 1Wi-Fi2Gear next to the network3Forget4Join again

Forget the network and join again

On the Wi-Fi page, tap the gear next to your network, tap Forget, then tap the network and enter the password again.

    Reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings

Settings, General management, Reset, Reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings. Saved networks and paired devices are removed, nothing else. Steps: how to reset network settings on a Samsung Galaxy phone.

About this guide

When a Galaxy keeps leaving Wi-Fi, the phone is often doing it on purpose: Intelligent Wi-Fi moves to mobile data or to another network it thinks is better. Check those switches before blaming the router.

The screenshots are from a Samsung Galaxy A57 5G with One UI 8.5 and Android 16. Other Galaxy phones on One UI 8 use the same menus; on older One UI versions a few names and positions differ. Wi-Fi was switched off on our phone when we captured these screens. We only looked at these screens on our phone and changed nothing.

Good to know

If only one network drops, restart that router and check whether other devices drop too.

Detect suspicious networks, lower on the Intelligent Wi-Fi page, only sends a notification; it does not disconnect you.

In short: Wi-Fi, three dots, Intelligent Wi-Fi: test with Switch to mobile data and Switch to better Wi-Fi networks off. Then forget and rejoin, then reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings.
