Pixel not ringing? What to check (Android 17)
Check that Do Not Disturb is off, then go to Settings, Sound and vibration and turn up Ring volume. For vibration, open Vibration and haptics: Ring vibration sets how strongly it vibrates, and Vibrate first, then ring gradually delays the sound.
4 of 4 steps show a real screenshot from our Pixel 10a. Each step was checked against the maker's own instructions, linked at the end.
Steps
- 1
Turn off Do Not Disturb
Go to Settings, Modes, Do Not Disturb. If it says Turn off, tap it.

- 2
Turn up Ring volume
Go to Settings, Sound and vibration. Drag Ring volume to the right. Call volume is for the call itself, not the ringtone.

- 3
Check the ring vibration
Tap Vibration and haptics at the bottom. Under Calls, Ring vibration sets the strength.

- 4
Check Vibrate first, then ring gradually
It was off on ours. When on, the phone vibrates first and the ring gets louder slowly, so a quick call can seem silent.

If you do not see this option
- Vibration settings missing? Use vibration and haptics, at the top of Vibration and haptics, must be on.
- Where is the ringtone? Phone ringtone is further down in Sound and vibration.
If this does not work
- Some callers get through, others don't? Do Not Disturb lets starred contacts and repeat callers through: Do Not Disturb and Modes.
- Ringing in headphones? Audio will play on, at the top of Sound and vibration, shows where sound goes. Ours said This phone.
- Phone set to Vibrate or Mute? Google says to press a volume button and tap the Ring control above the slider. If it shows Vibrate or Mute, tap it until it is on Ring.
- Only one contact never rings? Google says a contact can have its own ringtone, set in Contacts under More, Set ringtone. Open that contact and check which tone it uses.
- A mode silences the phone at certain times? Google says each mode's notification filters can block or allow calls. If calls stop at night or in the car, open Settings, Modes and check which modes are on or scheduled.
- Ring stops as soon as you pick up the phone? Google says pressing a volume button silences an incoming call's ring. Take care not to press it when you pull the phone out of a pocket.
Good to know
Silence the phone at night instead: Do Not Disturb and Modes.
None of these settings changes how calls are connected: a missed call still shows in the Phone app and goes to voicemail as usual. Turning Ring volume up or switching Do Not Disturb off takes effect straight away, so call the phone from another number to check. If the ring is still missing after that, restart the phone and test once more before looking at the speaker.
Google also describes Adaptive Sound on Pixel 4a (5G) and later, which adjusts the speaker output without changing the volume, and only on the phone's own speakers. It does not mute calls.
To pick a different ring, see how to change the ringtone on a Google Pixel.
