iPhone screen zoomed in and stuck? How to turn Zoom off

2 min read · 4 steps · Updated 2 October 2026

Short answer

Double-tap the screen with three fingers. The picture returns to normal size. Then open Settings, Accessibility, Zoom and switch Zoom off so that it does not happen again.

If the icons are suddenly huge and you can only see part of the screen, the phone is not broken. An accessibility feature called Zoom has been switched on, often by accident. It magnifies the whole screen.

Step by step

  1. Double-tap with three fingers

Tap the screen twice, quickly, with three fingers at the same time. The screen zooms out to its normal size.

  2. Open Settings and tap Accessibility

Now that you can see the whole screen, switch the feature off.

  3. Tap Zoom

It is in the Vision group, near the top.

  4. Switch Zoom off

The three-finger gestures no longer do anything, so the screen cannot zoom in by accident.

Good to know

If you cannot get to Settings because the screen is too large to use, connect the iPhone to a computer with its cable. On a Mac, open the Finder and select the iPhone. On a Windows PC or an older Mac, use iTunes. Click Configure Accessibility, untick Zoom and click OK.

While Zoom is on, you move around the enlarged screen by dragging with three fingers.

If only the text and icons are a little larger than you like, the cause may be Display Zoom instead. Look under Settings, Display & Brightness, Display Zoom.

In short: Double-tap with three fingers, then Settings, Accessibility, Zoom, off.
