How to turn on Bedtime mode on Android
2 min read · 4 steps · Updated 2 October 2026
Open Settings, tap Digital Wellbeing & parental controls, then Bedtime mode. Choose a schedule with start and end times, and switch on Greyscale and Do Not Disturb.
Bedtime mode turns the screen black and white, silences notifications and can keep the screen dark at the hours you sleep. A grey screen is much less tempting to scroll.
Menu names below are from Google Pixel phones on a recent Android version. Samsung, Xiaomi and other brands rename some of them, so the Samsung name is given where it differs. The pictures are simplified diagrams of the screen, not screenshots.
Step by step
Open Settings and tap Digital Wellbeing & parental controls
Scroll down the main Settings list to find it.
Tap Bedtime mode
On newer Pixel phones this lives under Modes, then Bedtime. On Samsung it is called Sleep mode, under Modes and Routines.
Set the schedule
Choose Use a schedule, pick the days and set the start and end times. You can also choose Turn on while charging, between the hours you set.
Switch on Greyscale and Do Not Disturb
Greyscale removes colour from the screen. Do Not Disturb silences calls and notifications, except from the people you allow.
Good to know
If you need more time one evening, pull down the notification shade and pause Bedtime mode from its notification.
Alarms still ring in Bedtime mode.
To let certain people reach you at night, open Do Not Disturb, tap People and add them to the allowed list.
In short: Settings, Digital Wellbeing, Bedtime mode, set the hours, switch on Greyscale and Do Not Disturb.
