How to check the specs of a Windows 11 PC

Short answer

Open Settings, System and scroll down to About. Device specifications lists the processor, installed RAM and system type. Windows specifications below it shows the edition and version of Windows.

You need these details to check whether a program or game will run, to buy the right memory, or when someone helping you asks what PC you have.

These steps are for Windows 11. The pictures are simplified diagrams of the Settings window, not screenshots, so colours and spacing on your PC look a little different.

Step by step

  1. Open Settings

    Press Windows + I. The System page opens.

    Scroll down and click About

    It is the last entry in the list. The device name and model are at the top of the page.

    Read Device specifications

    Processor, installed RAM and system type, which says whether Windows is 64-bit.

  4. Read Windows specifications

    Edition, such as Windows 11 Home or Pro, and the version number.

  5. Check the storage

    Go back to System and click Storage to see how large the drive is and how much is free.

Good to know

The Copy button next to each section copies the details so you can paste them into an email.

For the graphics card, open Settings, System, Display, Advanced display. The name is shown under Display information.
