Step by step

Open About device
Open Settings and scroll near the bottom. About device is under System & update.

Scroll down and tap Version
Past the Model row. Version, Legal information, Status and Instructions sit in one card.

Read Android security update
The date under Android security update is your patch level. Ours: Android version 16, Android security update 1 August 2026, build CPH2689_16.0.5.1001(EX01).
If you do not see this option
- Looking for "security patch level"? ColorOS labels it Android security update. Google says the row is under About phone, Android version on most phones; on OPPO it is About device, Version. Source: Check and update your Android version
- Is a newer patch waiting? The ColorOS card at the top of About device says Version up to date when there is nothing to install, as on ours. OPPO says on ColorOS 13 and later you check for updates by tapping the ColorOS card on About device. Source: How to Know When Software Update is Available

If this does not work
- Patch is several months old? Check for an update from the ColorOS card first. Google says most security patches install automatically; OPPO says updates roll out by country and model in batches, and some models get no more updates. Sources: Check and update your Android version, How to Update Software Using OTA (Over-the-Air)
- Update fails to download? OPPO lists low battery, too little storage and a weak network. Charge the phone, free up storage and use stable Wi-Fi. Sources: How to Update Software Using OTA (Over-the-Air), OPPO Software Update: Fail to Receive, Download or Install OTA (Over-the-Air)
About this guide
ColorOS does not call it the security patch level: the row is named Android security update, and it sits one level down, under Version.
The screenshots are from our OPPO Reno13 5G, the European model CPH2689, with ColorOS 16.0.5 and Android 16 (build CPH2689_16.0.5.1001(EX01)), in Dark mode.
