Samsung Galaxy notifications not showing? 5 settings to check

By · 2 min read · 5 steps · Updated 5 October 2026

Short answer

Turn off Do not disturb and Power saving in the quick panel, then open Settings, Notifications, App notifications and make sure the app's switch is on. If the app is in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps under Settings, Battery, Background usage limits, remove it there or add it to Never auto sleeping apps.

Missing notifications on a Galaxy almost always come from one of three places: a mode that silences them, the app's own switch, or battery limits that put the app to sleep. Samsung's own fix list checks them in this order.

The screenshots are from a Samsung Galaxy A57 5G with One UI 8.5 and Android 16. Other Galaxy phones on One UI 8 use the same menus; on older One UI versions a few names and positions differ.

Step by step

  1. Turn off Do not disturb and Power saving

Swipe down from the top right of the screen to open the quick panel. If Do not disturb or Power saving is highlighted, tap it to turn it off. Both can stop notifications from showing.

  2. Android screenshot: Open Notifications

    Open Notifications

    Open Settings and tap Notifications.

  3. Android screenshot: Check the app's switch

    Check the app's switch

Tap App notifications. Every app has a switch; the app must be switched on. For more options, open Settings, Apps, the app, Notifications, where Allow notifications must also be on.

  4. Android screenshot: Check Do not disturb here too

Check Do not disturb here too

Back on the Notifications page, Do not disturb shows whether a schedule turns it on automatically, for example at night.

  5. Android screenshot: Take the app out of sleep

Take the app out of sleep

Open Settings, Battery, Background usage limits. If the app is listed under Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps, touch and hold it and tap Remove. For apps that must always deliver at once, such as a messenger, add them to Never auto sleeping apps.

Good to know

Some apps have their own notification settings inside the app as well. Check those after the phone's settings.

Put unused apps to sleep, on the same Background usage limits page, can move apps you rarely open into Sleeping apps on its own. If notifications from such an app stop, look there first.

In short: Quick panel: Do not disturb and Power saving off. Settings, Notifications, App notifications: app switched on. Settings, Battery, Background usage limits: remove the app from Sleeping or Deep sleeping apps.
