By · 2 min read · 6 steps · Updated 5 October 2026 · ▶ Video demo

Short answer

Open Settings, Battery, Charging settings and make sure Fast charging is on. Then use a Samsung or other fast charger with a good cable, clean the USB-C port, and let a hot phone cool down. Battery protection can also stop charging early on purpose.

Step by step

  1. Android screenshot: Switch on Fast charging

    Switch on Fast charging

Settings, Battery, Charging settings. Fast charging needs a charger that supports it. It was on on our phone; some models also list wireless fast charging here.

  2. Android screenshot: Watch the charging estimate

    Watch the charging estimate

Show charging information displays the battery level and the time until full while the phone charges, so you can tell whether a charger is slow.

  3. Android screenshot: Check Battery protection

    Check Battery protection

Settings, Battery, Battery protection. Basic stops at 100% until the level drops to 95%; Maximum stops at a level you set. That is on purpose, not a fault.

  4. Test withAnother fast chargerAnother USB-C cableA wall socket, not a laptop

    Try another charger and cable

A damaged or weak charger or cable is the most common cause. Test with a different compatible charger and cable, plugged in firmly.

    Clean the charging port

Turn the phone off and look into the USB-C port with a torch. Remove lint carefully; do not use metal or liquid.

    Let it cool down

When the phone is hot, it charges more slowly or pauses charging. Stop games and other heavy apps while it charges.

About this guide

Slow charging usually comes from the charger or cable, a switch in Charging settings, or heat. The phone also slows charging itself near 100% and when it is warm.

The screenshots are from a Samsung Galaxy A57 5G with One UI 8.5 and Android 16. Other Galaxy phones on One UI 8 use the same menus; on older One UI versions a few names and positions differ. We only looked at these screens on our phone and changed nothing.

Good to know

Stops at 80% or 95%? Samsung Galaxy won't charge to 100%: Battery protection explained.

If the phone shows a moisture warning, Samsung advises drying the port before charging by cable.

In short: Fast charging on, a good charger and cable, a clean port, a cool phone. Battery protection stops early on purpose.
