Open Settings, Display, Motion smoothness. Choose Adaptive for smoother scrolling at up to 120 Hz, or Standard for 60 Hz and longer battery life, then tap Apply. Power saving switches the screen back to Standard.

Step by step

Open Display
Open Settings and tap Display.

Tap Motion smoothness
It is in the middle of the Display page. Ours was set to Adaptive.

Choose Adaptive for smoothness
Adaptive raises the rate up to 120 Hz while you scroll or play and lowers it when the screen is still.

Or choose Standard for battery
Standard keeps the screen at 60 Hz. The phone lasts longer on a charge.

Tap Apply
The button only becomes active after you choose a different option.
About this guide
The refresh rate is how often the screen redraws itself each second. Higher looks smoother when you scroll; lower saves battery. Our Galaxy A57 offered two choices; some Galaxy models also have a fixed High setting.
The screenshots are from a Samsung Galaxy A57 5G with One UI 8.5 and Android 16. Other Galaxy phones on One UI 8 use the same menus; on older One UI versions a few names and positions differ. We only looked at these screens on our phone and changed nothing.
Good to know
With Power saving on, the screen runs at Standard whatever you choose here.
If the battery runs down fast, Standard is one of the easiest savings: Samsung Galaxy battery draining fast? 6 fixes.
In short: Settings, Display, Motion smoothness: Adaptive (up to 120 Hz) or Standard (60 Hz), Apply.
