By Saadat Rafiq · 2 min read · 5 steps · Updated 5 October 2026
Open Settings, Battery, Power saving and tap the switch. Standard reduces background network use, syncing and location checks. Maximum goes further and limits all background activity and notifications except essential apps and apps you choose. Turn it off with the same switch.

Power saving is the quickest way to stretch the last part of a charge. On One UI 8.5 the page also tells you how long the battery should last with and without it.
The screenshots are from a Samsung Galaxy A57 5G with One UI 8.5 and Android 16. Other Galaxy phones on One UI 8 use the same menus; on older One UI versions a few names and positions differ.
Step by step

Open Battery
Open Settings and tap Battery.

Open Power saving
Tap Power saving. The page shows the estimated battery time with Power saving off and with each mode.

Choose Standard or Maximum
Standard limits background network use, syncing and location checks. Maximum limits all background activity and notifications except essential apps and the apps you choose. The gear next to each mode holds its extra limits.

Switch it on
Tap the switch at the top of the page. It changes from Off to On, and the chosen mode starts.
Turn it off again
Return to Settings, Battery, Power saving and tap the switch again.
