How to trim a video on a Samsung Galaxy
By Saadat Rafiq · 2 min read · 3 steps · Published 6 October 2026
Open the video in Gallery, tap the pencil (Edit), then the scissors. Drag the white handles at each end of the timeline to the new start and end, and tap Save. Revert undoes the change before you save.

Step by step

Open the video editor
Open the video in Gallery and tap the pencil at the bottom. The editor opens on the trim tool, the scissors, with the timeline at the bottom.

Drag the handles
Drag the white handle at either end of the timeline. We dragged the left handle in and the length changed from 0:05 to 0:03.

Save or revert
Tap Save to keep the shorter video, or Revert to undo. We discarded the change, so our test video stayed as it was.
About this guide
Gallery has a built-in video editor, so trimming the start or end of a clip needs no extra app. We tried this on our own test files and saved nothing.
The screenshots are from a Samsung Galaxy A57 5G with One UI 8.5 and Android 16, in Dark mode, using test pictures and a test video we made for this guide. Other Galaxy phones on One UI 8 use the same Gallery; on older versions a few names differ.
Good to know
Long or high-resolution videos can take a few minutes to save, Samsung says.
The other icons along the bottom of the editor hold the other editing tools; the scissors are the one for trimming.
In short: Gallery, the video, pencil, scissors, drag the handles, Save.
