Texts not sending on a Samsung Galaxy (Google Messages)? 5 fixes
By Saadat Rafiq · 2 min read · 5 steps · Updated 5 October 2026
In Google Messages, tap your profile picture, Messages settings, RCS chats and check the status. If it is not Connected, check your internet. For a failed message, use Resend messages, or turn on Automatically resend as text (SMS/MMS).

Step by step

Open RCS chats
Google Messages, profile picture, Messages settings, RCS chats.

Check the status
Ours said Connected. Connecting, Trouble connecting or Not supported mean chats cannot go over RCS right now; check the internet connection or ask your carrier.

Turn on Automatically resend as text
Then a chat message that cannot be delivered goes as SMS or MMS instead. It was off on our phone.
Resend the stuck message
Tap the failed message and resend it as a text. Google warns that SMS with a link puts photos behind a link it does not control.
Do not switch RCS off and on
Google advises against it: it can remove you from group chats.
About this guide
Our Galaxy uses Google Messages, not Samsung Messages. Chats go over RCS, which needs mobile data or Wi-Fi; if that fails, messages can stall until they are resent as normal texts.
The screenshots are from a Samsung Galaxy A57 5G with One UI 8.5 and Android 16. Other Galaxy phones on One UI 8 use the same menus; on older One UI versions a few names and positions differ. The phone number on the RCS page is blurred. We only looked at these screens on our phone and changed nothing.
Good to know
Normal SMS needs mobile signal, not internet. If even SMS fails, check Airplane mode and your credit or plan.
In short: Messages settings, RCS chats: status Connected? Otherwise fix the connection; Automatically resend as text on; resend stuck messages.
