Samsung Galaxy not vibrating? 6 things to check

By · 2 min read · 6 steps · Updated 5 October 2026 · ▶ Video demo

Short answer

Open Settings, Sounds and vibration. Choose Vibrate or Sound, not Mute, and switch on Vibrate while ringing if calls should vibrate as well as ring. Then raise the sliders under Vibration intensity and check that Do not disturb is off.

Step by step

  1. Android screenshot: Check the sound mode

    Check the sound mode

Settings, Sounds and vibration. The three choices at the top are Sound, Vibrate and Mute. Mute silences the phone completely. Ours was on Sound.

  2. Android screenshot: Switch on Vibrate while ringing

    Switch on Vibrate while ringing

With Sound selected, incoming calls ring; this switch makes them vibrate at the same time. It was off on our phone.

  3. Android screenshot: Raise the vibration intensity

    Raise the vibration intensity

Sounds and vibration, Vibration intensity has separate sliders for Call, Notifications, System and Media. Drag the one for the missing vibration to the right. On ours, System was lower than the others.

  4. Android screenshot: Pick a stronger pattern

    Pick a stronger pattern

Call vibration and Notification vibration set the pattern. A short, soft pattern is easy to miss; try a longer one. Ours were Basic call and Ticktock.

  5. 1Swipe down twice2Do not disturb3Tap to turn off

    Turn off Do not disturb

Do not disturb silences calls and alerts, vibration included, apart from what you allow. Open the quick panel and tap it off, or see how to use Do not disturb on a Samsung Galaxy phone.

  6. Android screenshot: Test the motor in Diagnostics

    Test the motor in Diagnostics

Settings, Device care, Diagnostics. On our phone this page held one card, Phone diagnostics, which runs its checks in the Samsung Members app and needs a Samsung account. If a vibration check there fails, the motor needs a repair.

About this guide

When a Galaxy stops vibrating, the cause is almost always a setting: the sound mode, a switch that only covers ringing, or a slider turned down. All of them are on one page.

The screenshots are from a Samsung Galaxy A57 5G with One UI 8.5 and Android 16. Other Galaxy phones on One UI 8 use the same menus; on older One UI versions a few names and positions differ. We only looked at these screens on our phone and changed nothing.

Good to know

If the phone vibrates but makes no sound: no sound on a Samsung Galaxy phone.

Calls only, not alerts? Samsung Galaxy not ringing? 7 things to check.

A thick case does not stop the motor, but it can make a soft pattern hard to feel in a pocket.

In short: Settings, Sounds and vibration: Sound or Vibrate, Vibrate while ringing on, Vibration intensity up, Do not disturb off.
