How to turn off Connectivity Assist (Wi-Fi Assist) on an iPhone
By Saadat Rafiq · 2 min read · 5 steps · Updated 5 October 2026
On iOS 27, open Settings, tap Wi-Fi, scroll to the bottom and switch off Connectivity Assist. It replaced Wi-Fi Assist, which used to be under Mobile Data. While it is on, the iPhone uses mobile data when the Wi-Fi is slow, which can cost data.

Step by step
Open Settings and tap Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is near the top of the main Settings list.

Scroll to the bottom
Below Known Networks and Other Networks is Connectivity Assist.

Read what it does
The note below says it uses mobile data in addition to Wi-Fi for a more reliable internet connection, and that the iPhone keeps track of how much mobile data it used.

Switch it off
Tap the switch so it turns grey. The iPhone then stays on Wi-Fi even when the connection is poor.

Check the data it used
Reset Data Usage, under the switch, sets its counter back to zero. Your total mobile data is under Settings, Mobile Service.
If you do not see this option
- Your iPhone may run a different version. The screenshots here show iOS 27.0.1 (iPhone 14 Pro). On another version a setting can have a different name or sit in a different place. See your version under Settings, General, About. Update under Settings, General, Software Update; back up first, plug in and use Wi-Fi. - Search for it. Open Settings, tap the search field, type the name of the setting and tap the result. Apple notes that the sections in Settings depend on the iPhone model. Source: Find settings on iPhone
- It is greyed out. Screen Time restrictions can lock settings; Apple gives this as the reason when the Apple Account row is greyed out. Check Settings, Screen Time, Content & Privacy Restrictions. Source: If you can't sign out due to restrictions, or your Apple Account is grayed out in Settings
About this guide
If your mobile data runs out faster than expected while you are mostly on Wi-Fi, Connectivity Assist is a likely reason. iOS 27 renamed Wi-Fi Assist and moved it from the mobile data settings to the bottom of the Wi-Fi page, so many people cannot find it.
The screenshots are our own, taken on an iPhone 14 Pro running iOS 27.0.1. It was switched on on our phone. The network names are blurred.
Good to know
Apple says Connectivity Assist does not work while roaming abroad, when Low Data Mode is on for mobile data, or with some third-party streaming apps.
Apple also says you can turn it off for a single network instead of everywhere.
On iOS 26 and earlier the switch is called Wi-Fi Assist and sits at the bottom of Settings, Mobile Data (Cellular).
In short: iOS 27: Settings, Wi-Fi, scroll down, Connectivity Assist off. iOS 26: Mobile Data, Wi-Fi Assist.
