Make sure Homepage is on
The switch at the top shows the house icon next to the address bar. Switch it off to hide the icon.

Choose the page
Chrome's homepage opens the new tab page with search. Tap Enter custom web address and type an address to use your own page. Ours stayed on Chrome's homepage.
About this guide
The homepage is the page the house icon opens. Set it to a site you open every day.
The screenshots are from Chrome and the Gmail app on a Samsung Galaxy A57 5G with Android 16 and One UI 8.5, in dark mode. Both apps look the same on other Android phones; only the phone's own settings screens differ by brand.
Good to know
On a phone, Chrome opens your last tabs when you start it; the homepage only opens when you tap the house icon.
Old tabs can tidy themselves away: Settings, Tabs and tab groups, Move to inactive section, which was set to after 21 days inactive on our phone.
In short: Chrome, Settings, Homepage: switch on, Chrome's homepage or a custom address.
