About this guide

Handy on a phone a child uses. YouTube says plainly that no filter is 100% accurate.

The screenshots are from the YouTube app, version 21.39.522, on a Samsung Galaxy A57 5G with Android 16 and One UI 8.5, in dark mode. Other people's videos, ads and comments are blurred.

We switched Restricted Mode on for the picture and off again.

Good to know

Set it again in every browser and on every device the child uses. For more control, YouTube offers supervised accounts through Family Center, in the same Settings list.

In short: YouTube, gear, General: Restricted Mode on.
