How to get a refund on Google Play

2 min read · 6 steps · Updated 2 October 2026

Short answer

Go to play.google.com, click your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions and Budget & order history. Next to the purchase, click Report a problem, choose the option that fits and submit the form. Google usually decides within one day, at most four.

Google handles refund requests for apps, games, in-app purchases and subscriptions bought through Google Play on a web page, not in the Play Store app. The steps here are the ones Google gives for the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. Elsewhere the form is the same, and the rules on what is refunded differ.

Menu names are from the Google Play Store app on a recent Android version.

Step by step

  1. Open play.google.com

Use a browser on the phone or a computer and sign in with the Google Account that made the purchase.

  2. Open your order history

Click your profile picture at the top right, then Payments & subscriptions, then Budget & order history.

  3. Click Report a problem

Find the purchase in the list and click Report a problem next to it.

  4. Choose the reason

Pick the option that describes your situation, for example a purchase by accident, a purchase by a child, or an item that does not work.

  5. Fill in the form and submit

Say that you would like a refund and click Submit.

  6. Wait for the decision

Google usually answers by email within one day. It can take up to four days. The money then goes back to the payment method you used.

Good to know

If an in-app purchase did not arrive or does not work as described, Google asks you to contact the developer of the app first. The contact details are on the app's page in the Play Store under App support.

An app or game you have only just bought can often be returned on its Play Store page with the Refund button, which is shown for a short time after the purchase.

Charges you do not recognise at all may be fraud. Change the password of your Google Account and report the charge to your bank or card provider.

A refund does not stop a subscription from renewing: how to cancel or pause a Google Play subscription on Android.

In short: play.google.com, profile picture, Payments & subscriptions, Budget & order history, Report a problem, choose the reason, submit, decision in one to four days.
