How to hide your number when calling from an iPhone

2 min read · 4 steps · Updated 2 October 2026

Short answer

Open Settings, tap Apps, then Phone, then Show My Caller ID, and switch it off. Your number then appears as "No Caller ID" or "Private" on every call until you turn it back on.

You may not want a shop, a seller or a stranger to keep your number after one call. Hiding your caller ID withholds it from the person you call.

Step by step

  1. Open Settings, Apps, Phone

On iOS 17 and earlier, Phone is in the main Settings list.

  2. Tap Show My Caller ID

The phone checks the setting with your network for a moment.

  3. Switch it off

All calls you make now show no number.

  4. Hide it for one call only

Leave the setting on and dial a prefix before the number. In many European countries it is #31#, in the UK 141 and in the US *67. Your network's help page lists the code for your country.

Good to know

If the switch is greyed out or missing, your network controls caller ID. Ask them to withhold your number, or use the prefix.

Many people do not answer calls from hidden numbers, and some phones reject them automatically.

Emergency services and your network can always see your number. Hiding it does not make a call anonymous to them.

FaceTime and iMessage do not use this setting. They show the number or email address chosen under Settings, Apps, FaceTime.

In short: Settings, Apps, Phone, Show My Caller ID, off.
