How to cancel a subscription on an iPhone

Short answer

Open Settings, tap your name and tap Subscriptions. Tap the subscription and then Cancel Subscription. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. For a free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.

Subscriptions that were taken out through the App Store are listed in one place and are cancelled there, not inside the app. Deleting the app does not stop the payments.

Menu names are from recent versions of iOS.

Step by step

  1. Open Settings and tap your name

    Your name is at the top of the Settings list.

  2. Tap Subscriptions

    The list shows active subscriptions at the top and expired ones below.

  3. Tap the subscription

    The page shows the price, the renewal date and the available plans.

  4. Tap Cancel Subscription

    You may have to scroll down to see the button. Confirm. The subscription runs until the date shown and does not renew.

  5. If there is no Cancel button

    A subscription without the button, or with an expiry date in red, is already cancelled and will not be charged again.

  6. If the subscription is not in the list

    Search your email for "receipt from Apple" and check which Apple Account is named on it. It may belong to a family member, who then has to cancel it, or to a second account of yours. If there is no receipt from Apple at all, the subscription was taken out directly with the company. Cancel it on that company's website.

Without the iPhone, sign in at account.apple.com, open Subscriptions and cancel there.
