iPhone Bluetooth not connecting? 8 fixes to try
2 min read · 8 steps · Updated 2 October 2026
Switch Bluetooth off and on in Settings, restart both devices, and make sure the accessory is in pairing mode and charged. If it still fails, tap the i next to the device, choose Forget This Device and pair again.
Bluetooth problems are usually a stuck connection on one side. Resetting the pairing fixes most of them.
Step by step
Switch Bluetooth off and on
Do it under Settings, Bluetooth. The button in Control Centre only disconnects devices until tomorrow.
Check the accessory
Make sure it is charged, switched on and close to the phone. Many headphones need to be put in pairing mode again before a new connection.
Disconnect it from other devices
Headphones and speakers often reconnect to the last laptop, tablet or phone they used. Switch Bluetooth off on that device for a moment.
Restart both devices
Restart the iPhone and switch the accessory off and on.
Forget the device and pair again
In Settings, Bluetooth, tap the i next to the accessory and tap Forget This Device. Then pair it as if it were new.
Check the app permission
Fitness bands, smart home devices and car apps need Bluetooth permission. Open Settings, Privacy & Security, Bluetooth and switch the app on.
Update iOS and the accessory
Install any iOS update. Many accessories update their own software through the maker's app.
Reset network settings
Open Settings, General, Transfer or Reset iPhone, Reset, Reset Network Settings. This removes all Bluetooth pairings and saved Wi-Fi passwords.
Good to know
For a car: delete the phone from the car's own Bluetooth list as well, then pair again while parked.
If the Bluetooth switch is greyed out or spins forever, that suggests a hardware fault. Contact Apple.

In short: Bluetooth off and on, restart both, forget the device and pair again.
