How to add another email account to the Gmail app on Android
2 min read · 7 steps · Updated 3 October 2026
Open the Gmail app, tap your profile picture at the top right and tap Add another account. Choose Google for a second Gmail address, or your provider, such as Outlook or Yahoo, and sign in. For any other provider, choose Other, enter the address, pick Personal (IMAP) and enter the password.
The Gmail app is not only for Gmail. It can collect the mail from Outlook, Yahoo, a work mailbox or the address from your internet provider, so that one app and one set of notifications covers everything. You can add up to five addresses.
Menu names below are from Google Pixel phones and Google's own apps on a recent Android version. Samsung, Xiaomi and other brands rename some of them.
Step by step
Open the account menu
Open the Gmail app and tap your profile picture or initial at the top right. Tap Add another account.
Add a second Gmail address
Choose Google and sign in with that address and its password. If the account uses 2-Step Verification, confirm the sign-in the usual way.
Add Outlook, Yahoo or another listed provider
Choose the provider from the list and sign in on its own page. The settings are filled in for you.
Add any other address by hand
Choose Other, type the full email address and tap Next. Choose Personal (IMAP), enter the password and tap Next. If the app asks for server details, enter the IMAP and SMTP servers, ports and security type from your provider's help pages.
If the password is refused
Providers with extra sign-in security often want an app password instead of your normal one. You create it in the security settings of that email account, and use it only in this app.
Switch between accounts
Tap the profile picture and tap the other account, or swipe up or down on the profile picture. To see everything together, tap the menu at the top left and tap All inboxes.
Remove an account
Tap the profile picture, tap Manage accounts on this device, choose the account and tap Remove account. The mailbox itself is not deleted, only its copy on this phone.
Good to know
Each account has its own notification and signature settings: in Gmail, open the menu, Settings, and tap the account.
Choose IMAP, not POP3, when you are asked. With IMAP the mail stays on the server and looks the same on every device.
Sending fails but receiving works? That is nearly always a wrong SMTP server or port. Compare them with your provider's instructions.

In short: Gmail app, profile picture, Add another account, pick Google, your provider or Other with Personal (IMAP). All inboxes shows everything. Up to five addresses.
