How to find your saved passwords on a Mac

2 min read · 7 steps · Updated 3 October 2026

Short answer

Open the Passwords app, which is part of macOS Sequoia and later, and unlock it with Touch ID or your Mac password. Click a website or app in the list to see its user name and password. On older versions of macOS, open System Settings and click Passwords.

Every time Safari offers to save a password and you agree, it is stored in your keychain. The Passwords app is the window onto that store: it shows the passwords, passkeys, Wi-Fi passwords and verification codes saved on the Mac and, with iCloud Keychain, on your other Apple devices.

Menu names are from recent versions of macOS, where the settings app is called System Settings.

Step by step

  1. Open the Passwords app

Press Command + Space, type Passwords and press Return. You can also ask Siri to show your passwords.

  2. Unlock it

Use Touch ID or enter the password of your Mac user account.

  3. Find the account

Click All in the sidebar and type the name of the website or app into the search field.

  4. See or copy the password

Click the entry. Hold the pointer over the dots to reveal the password, or click it to copy it.

  5. Change or delete an entry

Click Edit, change the user name or password, and click Save. To remove it, click Delete Password or Delete Passkey. Changing it here does not change it on the website. Do that on the website first.

  6. On macOS Sonoma or earlier

Choose Apple menu, System Settings and click Passwords. Unlock, select the account and click the details button next to it. In Safari the same list is under Safari, Settings, Passwords.

  7. If a password is missing

Check that All is selected. Look in Recently Deleted in the sidebar. And check that iCloud Keychain is on, under System Settings, your name, iCloud, Passwords, if the password was saved on your iPhone.

Good to know

The Security section of the Passwords app lists passwords that are reused, weak or known from data leaks. Change those first.

Passwords saved in Chrome or Firefox are in those browsers' own settings, not here.

Better passwords, and no passwords at all: how to make strong passwords you can actually remember and what are passkeys.

In short: Passwords app, Touch ID or Mac password, All, search, click the entry. Older macOS: System Settings, Passwords.
