How to use iPhone Mirroring on a Mac

2 min read · 7 steps · Updated 2 October 2026

Short answer

Open the iPhone Mirroring app on the Mac, with the locked iPhone lying nearby. Enter the iPhone passcode on the phone when asked, choose whether notifications should appear on the Mac, and the iPhone screen opens in a window that you control with the Mac's keyboard and trackpad.

iPhone Mirroring puts your iPhone in a window on the Mac. You can open apps, answer messages and drag files across while the phone stays locked in your bag. Apple currently does not offer the feature in the European Union.

These steps are for recent versions of macOS.

Step by step

  1. Check the requirements

You need macOS Sequoia 15 or later on a Mac with Apple silicon or the T2 chip, and iOS 18 or later on an iPhone with a passcode. Both must use the same Apple Account with two-factor authentication.

  2. Switch on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on both

Put the iPhone near the Mac and lock it. Mirroring only works while the iPhone is locked.

  3. Open iPhone Mirroring

The app is in the Dock and in the Applications folder. You can also find it with Spotlight.

  4. Enter the iPhone passcode

The first time, unlock the iPhone and type its passcode when it asks, to allow the connection.

  5. Choose the options

Decide whether iPhone notifications should be shown on the Mac, and whether the Mac should ask for your password or Touch ID every time or connect automatically.

  6. Use the iPhone from the Mac

Click to tap, drag to swipe and type with the Mac keyboard. The buttons at the top of the window open the Home Screen and the App Switcher. Files, photos and text can be dragged between the two devices.

  7. Stop mirroring

Quit the iPhone Mirroring app, or pick up the iPhone and unlock it.

Good to know

To see which Macs may mirror the iPhone, or to remove one, open Settings on the iPhone and go to General, AirPlay & Continuity, iPhone Mirroring.

The iPhone's camera and microphone are not available through the mirrored window. For those, see how to use an iPhone as a webcam for a Mac.

Live Activities from the iPhone appear on the Mac with macOS Tahoe 26 or later.

The other direction, the Mac's picture on a TV, is in how to mirror a Mac screen to a TV with AirPlay.

In short: Same Apple Account, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on, iPhone locked and near, open iPhone Mirroring, enter the passcode once.
