How to take a screenshot on an Android phone
2 min read · 4 steps · Updated 2 October 2026
Press the power button and the volume down button at the same time and let go. The screen flashes and a preview appears in the corner. The picture is saved in your gallery under Screenshots.
The button combination is the same on almost every Android phone, including Samsung, Google Pixel, Xiaomi and OnePlus. Most brands add a gesture as well.
The pictures are diagrams of the buttons to press.
Step by step
Press power and volume down together
Press both for a moment and let go. If you hold them too long, some phones open the power menu instead.
Use the preview
A small preview appears at the bottom. Tap Edit to crop or draw, Share to send it, or swipe it away.
Capture a long page
On the preview, tap Capture more, or the icon with downward arrows on Samsung. The phone scrolls and adds more of the page to the picture.
Find the screenshot
Open Google Photos, tap Collections and look under Screenshots. On Samsung, open Gallery, Albums, Screenshots.
Good to know
Samsung: you can also swipe the edge of your hand across the screen. Switch it on under Settings, Advanced features, Motions and gestures, Palm swipe to capture.
Pixel: open the recent apps view and tap Screenshot under the app.
Some apps, such as banking apps and private browser tabs, block screenshots.
