How to customise Quick Settings on an Android phone

2 min read · 8 steps · Updated 3 October 2026

Short answer

Swipe down twice from the top of the screen to open all Quick Settings, then tap the pencil icon to edit. Drag the tiles into the order you want, tap Add next to settings you want to include, and tap Remove on those you never use. The first few tiles are the ones shown after a single swipe.

Quick Settings is the panel of switches behind the notifications: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, torch, Do Not Disturb, hotspot and many more. Out of the box the order is rarely the one you would choose. Two minutes of sorting puts the switches you use daily within one swipe.

Menu names below are from Google Pixel phones and Google's own apps on a recent Android version. Samsung, Xiaomi and other brands rename some of them.

Step by step

  1. Open Quick Settings

Swipe down from the top of the screen once to see the first few tiles above your notifications. Swipe down a second time to see all of them.

  2. Use the tiles

Tap a tile to switch it on or off. A dimmed tile is off. Touch and hold a tile to jump to the full settings page behind it, for example the Wi-Fi list.

  3. Start editing

With the full panel open, tap the pencil icon (Edit).

  4. Reorder the tiles

Touch and hold a tile and drag it to a new position. Put the ones you use most into the first positions, because those are the ones that show after a single swipe.

  5. Add tiles

Scroll down to the settings that are not yet in the panel and tap Add, or drag them up. Useful ones that are often hidden: Hotspot, Screen record, QR code scanner, Wallet, Night Light, Battery Saver, Nearby Share or Quick Share.

  6. Remove tiles

Tap Remove next to a tile you do not need, or drag it down to the lower area. It is not deleted and can be added back at any time.

  7. Resize tiles

On recent Android versions you can drag the right edge of a tile to make it wide or small, so more fit on one page.

  8. Leave the editor

Tap the back arrow or swipe back. The new layout is saved.

Good to know

Some steps need Android 13 or later. On Samsung phones, open the panel, tap the pencil or the three dots and choose Edit buttons.

Apps can offer tiles of their own, for example a note app or a smart home app. You can remove them the same way.

What the main tiles do: Do Not Disturb, Battery Saver, Wi-Fi hotspot, Screen record and Night Light.

In short: Swipe down twice, tap the pencil, drag tiles into order, Add what is missing, Remove what you never use. The first tiles show after one swipe.
