Siri, the personal assistant for iOS, has turned into an incredibly useful tool capable of generating a very nice search experience. Even though some of its best features are very easy, I will show you some tips and tricks that will help you get the most out of Siri.
#1 Take Me To….
Siri can take you anywhere with two simple questions. First, ask Siri about a particular restaurant or movie theater. Choose one and say, ” Take me there.” Siri will open maps and give you directions to the nearest location of your option.
#2 Correct Siri When it Can’t Understand You
Have you ever asked Siri something and she didn’t get it right? I’ve lost count how many times it’s happened to me, but thanks to the edit option you can help Siri understand you better. When you ask Siri something, you will see what she recognized at the top, but right under your question, there is an edit option.
Tap on that and you can now type in what you meant to say and in the future, Siri won’t misunderstand you.
#3 Remind Me About This
Did you run into a site you don’t have time to read right now? Don’t worry about forgetting to visit it at a later date since by telling Siri, ” Remind me about this.” Siri will tell you at a later time to check out that site.
#4 Give Siri a Different Accent or Change from Male to Female
Before, if you wanted Siri to sound differently, you would have to modify the location or language. Now, by going to Settings > Siri > Siri Voice you can give Siri an American, British or Australian accent and change from a female voice to a male voice.
#5 Beam Me Up Scotty
If you have used this phrase on your Android device, Google has given you an answer like,” I can not do it, Captain, I don’t have the power.” Siri isn’t as talkative as Google, but instead says,” We’re having a wee bit of trouble.”
#6 Voice Feedback Always On
By having voice feedback always on you can get Siri to read you your messages before you send them and have Siri speak whenever you ask it something. To enable this feature go to Settings > General > Siri > Voice Feedback> On. Since you’re already there, you can also select only to hear this when you are using a handsfree device.
#7 Show Pictures Taken…..
If you’re like me, so you have so many pictures it’s not even funny. Good luck trying to find pictures you took last week in the middle of the abyss of pictures. Take the easy road and tell Siri to look for pictures taken on a certain date and those will be the ones that will appear in the search results.
#8 Have Siri Learn to Pronounce Contact Names
Do you have a contact that Siri can’t seem to learn to pronounce? You can give Siri a lesson by saying, ” Learn to pronounce” and then the contact name. Siri will then ask you to pronounce the name and then Siri will ask you which of the options listed she should use.
#9 How Much Tip to Leave
If you’re not very good with number and need to know how much tip you should leave, Siri can help you with that too. You can say,” How much is a 20% tip for a $20 meal?” After that, all you have to do is leave the tip.
#10 Roll Some Dice or Flip a Coin
Need to settle something with a friend and need a coin to see who wins? If you don’t have a real coin, you can always ask Siri to help you. Just say, ” Flip a coin or roll some dice” and Siri will give you random results.
There is so much Siri can help us with that it may not be possible to get everything down in a single post. Did I miss your favorite? Let me know which one it is in the comments.
