When Android 7.0 first came out, everyone was very excited. Nougat obviously had new features that everyone wanted to try out. One of those the things that everyone wanted to know was how to add a custom quick settings tile.
If you’ve been putting it off, it’s time to cross that off your to-do list. You’re finally going to be able to add your own quick settings tile in Android Nougat and brag about it to your friends.
Quickly Add a Quick Settings Tile in Android Nougat
What are the benefits of having quick access to your favorite app? There are plenty but just to mention one, you can see the weather forecast by simply swiping down from the top of you display.
To use this feature, you’re going to need to download an app that is compatible. I’ll mention some you can install a little bit later on. So, let’s say you have that app. Now, what you need to do is turn on any Quick Setting Toggle you want by using the app’s main interface (if the app has one).
You’ll need to give the app access to the permissions it asks you for if you want it to work correctly. Once you’ve given permissions and everything swipe down from the top of your display twice. You’ll need to swipe twice because you need to expand the Quick Settings panel fully.
Scroll all the way down to the end of the list, and you should see the new tile. Long-press on the new tiles and without letting go drag it to the dark gray part of the menu and let go. Next time, when you need to access your new app, just swipe down twice. If you only want to swipe down once, add it into the first five slots.
That’s all there is to it. It’s not so hard now is it? Of course not. Now, it’s time to choose one of those compatible apps I told you about earlier.
Weather Quick Settings Tile
Admit it. You want a great weather app, and you want it for free. Well, with Weather Quick Settings Tile you have that great weather app without paying a dime. You’ve probably heard that the new API can only update their Quick Settings tiles when your phone first turns on. They can also do it when you interact with them.
Even if you see outdated information on the app, simply tap on your Weather Quick Settings Tile to get the latest information.
If you’re willing to put in $1.49, you’ll get the Tiles app. It has a lot of Tiles I think you’ll be happy with. The list of the tiles you can add is quite extensive, and you might not even have room for all the ones you want to add.
You can add tiles for a quick camera launcher, a calendar shortcut, or you can even have a Street Vire toggle where you can open Google Maps to have a 360-degree view of where you are.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think I speak for everyone when I say that Nougat’s new Quick Settings API is absolutely great. It just makes things a lot easier. Do you think that you’ll give it a try? Let me know in the comments.
