After getting your morning coffee, you head on over to your desk. You turn on your computer and get to work, but you notice that 10 minutes later you’re checking your Facebook profile. It all happened so quickly, and you didn’t even see when you first wandered off and ended up on the social network.
You meant to stay focused on work, but you just had no control over what you were doing, right?. If you have a hard time concentrating, don’t worry, you’re not alone. It happens to everyone, but if you’re determined to stay focused, these Chrome extensions should help.
Nanny for Google Chrome
I know, you’re grown up, and the last thing you need is a nanny. This nanny extension won’t tell you when it’s time to go to bed, but it will control your browsing habits. With Nanny for Google Chrome, you can block URLs at certain times of the day. If you have to access this URLs during the day for whatever reason, you can at least limit the time you spend on it.
So, if you can’t help but update your Facebook profile during work hours, you can block it from 9 am to 5 pm. The extension also gives you the option of only being able to access Facebook (or whatever site distracts you) for an hour. You can both if you want.
Chrome Nanny also gives you the option of only tracking how much time you spend on a site, but it has to be on your whitelist and not blocked. The extension also features Tags and with the tags you can group them together. There’s also a statistics page if you want to check that out too.
If what you need is to follow a working schedule, then the Chrome extension you need is Strict Workflow. This extension will start a timer for 25 minutes that are exclusively for work. During the work minutes, you won’t be able to visit sites such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, time scheduleEtc.
Once the 25 minutes are up, you can take a five-minute break. The time settings I mentioned are just an example, but you can set the time up yourself too. Go to the extension settings and schedule that best fits you. Make sure you plan wisely because once you start the work time, you won’t be able to ake any changes.
Stay Focused is another useful Chrome extension that is going to help you..well.. stay focused. It only lets you spend a certain amount of time on certain sites. Once you have used the time, that the extension allows you to have, the distracting sites are blocked for the rest of the day.
The extension lets you set things up just the way you like them. You can either lock the entire site, specific paths, certain subdomains, pages, and you can even block certain in-page content.
A feature that I think you’re going to like is Nuclear Option. This feature will block the sites you mention for the hours you set up. Once you set the feature up, there is no way you can cancel it.
Time Warp is an extension that gives you different options when it comes to blocking distracting sites. It offers some more flexible options than the other extensions.
For example, you can either have the extension redirect you to a site that’s useful when you work. Or, you can have the extension show you a quote that will motivate you to get back to work. It also completely blocks that sites if that’s what you want to do.
It’s hard to stay focused at work since there are so many other fun things you could be doing. Even so, work pays the bills, and that’s something you can’t afford to lose.
The Chrome extensions on the list will help you get work done and even finish work faster. How do you try to stay focused at work? Let me know in the comments.
